What PRUEFSTER's AI proctoring actually does
AI proctoring at PRUEFSTER is an automated review of the exam recording. During the exam, the participant's webcam and, where enabled, the shared screen are recorded as in any other PRUEFSTER exam. After the exam, our detection models go through that recording and look for three kinds of incident: the participant leaving the room, another person appearing in the webcam image, and a chatbot such as ChatGPT being used in the screen share.
Every detection is flagged with its position in the recording. Based on the detections it made, the AI then classifies the whole session as green, yellow or red. That traffic-light rating is what the exam provider sees first, so the sessions that need a closer look stand out immediately from the ones that don't.
The models that do this run on PRUEFSTER's own infrastructure. Webcam images and screen recordings are never sent to a third-party AI provider for analysis; the detection happens on systems we host and operate ourselves.

How the AI review works, and when to choose it
The review runs after the exam, not during it. Once a session has ended, its recording is passed to the detection models. It can take up to three hours after the exam before a session has been reviewed and its rating is available. This is the main trade-off compared with human live proctoring, where a proctor watches the exam as it happens and the result is there instantly.
Because no proctor has to be present for each session, the AI review can cover far more participants at the same time than our live proctoring, and it costs less per session than either human review or human live proctoring. That makes it the fit for high-volume exams where a rating within a few hours is fast enough.
If your exams need someone to react while the participant is still in the session, live human proctoring is the right tool. If you need a consistent rating of every session at scale and can wait up to three hours for it, AI proctoring is the lower-cost option.
